The Murray State men’s golf team played 36 holes Monday at the Samford Intercollegiate and had a spot in fifth place in a field of 10 teams after scores of 307-294=601.

The Racers led host Samford (607) by six shots and trailed fourth place Delta State (600) and third place UT Martin (596). Tennessee Tech was in front at 579 and Auburn was in second at 593.

Freshman Connor Coombs was MSU’s top player on the day with a spot in 12th place among the field of 58 players on scores of 74-73=147. MSU’s Avery Edwards had a spot in 18th place on rounds of 75-75=150, while Gabe Wheeler and Lance Davis shared 21st place. Wheeler had scores of 79-73=152, with Davis recording rounds of 79-73=152. Austin Knight, a winner last week for the Racers, had scores of 80-78=158 and was in 38th position.

Greystone is playing to a par-72 and 7,206 yards.

Tuesday’s final round is a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
