The Murray State women’s golf team and senior Moa Folke finished up the fall portion of the 2017-18 season each with a ninth place finish at the Cardinal Cup at the University of Louisville Golf Club in Simpsonville, Kentucky.
The Racers played in a tough field of teams and held their own on scores of 307-299-309=915 and placed just behind Toledo (913), Virginia Tech and Memphis (901) and ahead of Kentucky (921), Charlotte (929) and Richmond (930). Host Louisville was the winner at 877, ahead of Illinois (885) and Wisconsin (892).
Folke placed ninth in the field of 82 players with scores of 78-71-74=223. Her second round 1-under-par 71 was MSU’s best in the three rounds of the event. MSU’s Linette Holmslykke was 29th on scores of 75-74-77=226, while Lucila Puente Rodriguez de Austria was 42nd on scores of 77-77-79=233. Anna Moore placed 51st on rounds of 77-77-81=235 and Raeysha Surendran was 62nd after scores of 80-80-79=239.
MSU’s Jane Watts was fifth in a field of eight individuals and was 62nd overall on scores of 82-73-84=239.
Coming off their 10th Ohio Valley Conference title last April, the Racers had a solid fall season with two wins and a second place showing in five events. Murray State will get the spring season in late February when they visit the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate in Kiawah Island, S.C. (Feb. 25-27). MSU has four spring events before taking on the OVC Tournament (April 16-18) in Muscle Shoals, Alabama at The Shoals Golf Club. For the first time, the field will play The Shoals Schoolmaster course. MSU has one home event in the spring (April 6-7) at Miller Memorial Golf Course at the Jan Weaver Invitational.
