Lauren Hartlage has checked off many accomplishments in her young career, including being named the conference’s freshman of the year last season. The sophomore added to that growing list on Sunday.

Behind a record-setting performance, Hartlage captured the individual title at the Cardinal Cup for her first career victory at Louisville. She finished the two-day event with a 10-under-par 206 and shattered the 13-year record by four strokes. She tied the school record on Saturday for the lowest single round, with a 7-under-par 65.

“The win means a lot,” Hartlage said. “I played really well the first two days, but I wasn’t hitting the ball quite as well as I would like, but I was putting great and I’ve been working a lot on my putting, so that was a confidence booster. Coming into today, it was really windy and I knew the conditions were going to be tough, but I stayed patient.”

More importantly to Hartlage, she aided Louisville to its eighth Cardinal Cup team title. The team shot a 13-over-par 877, eight strokes better than the runner-up, for the fourth-best score in the tournament’s history. Louisville finished ahead of Illinois and Kent State, programs that are both ranked in Golfstat’s top 20.

Molly Skapik, Kristin Engle, and Jacqueline Twitty each bolstered the team score with their respective performances. Skapik shot a 5-over-par 221 to tie for fourth, giving the senior consecutive top-10 finishes. Engle and Twitty each tied for 19th with identical 9-over-par 225 marks.

Delaney Shah paced the Louisville Black team, tying for 32nd with a 12-over-par 228.

Heavy winds throughout the day inflated the third-round scores. Only two players – one being Hartlage – finished the day even or below par.

The Cardinals conclude their fall campaign next week at the Ladies Fall Intercollegiate Invitational in Johns Creek, Ga. The team is scheduled to play Friday through Sunday at the Atlanta Athletic Club Highlands Course.
