Sophomore Lauren Hartlage set a tournament single-round record with her 7-under-par 65 in the second round, aiding the University of Louisville women’s golf team to the top of the leaderboard on Saturday at the Cardinal Cup in Simpsonville, Ky.

Hartlage, who has a sizeable nine-stroke advantage through two rounds of play, opened the day with a 3-under-par 69 at the UofL Golf Club. Instead of maintaining her lead, the sophomore used her remarkable second-round performance to move to 10-under-par 134.

The Elizabethtown, Ky., native has 10 birdies to lead the 83-player field to go along with her second round eagle.

The Cardinals’ scoring lineup was impressive from top to bottom, keeping the team in contention for its eighth team title. The team is first in the 15-team – 14 schools – race, shooting a 3-under-par 573. Louisville boasts three players in the top 10 and has an astonishing 4.78 par-5 scoring average.

Molly Skapik is tied for fourth with an even-par 144, shooting an even-par 72 in the first and second rounds. The senior also had an eagle, earning the feat in the second round on No. 4, a par-5, 523-yard hole.

The course presented plenty of challenges, evident by the scores. Louisville is one of only two schools with at least two players even or below par.

Jacqueline Twitty was solid, shooting a 1-over-par 73 in the first and second rounds. She is in a nine-way tie for 10th. Kristin Engle rounded out the team’s scorers, totaling a 5-over-par 149.

Delaney Shah is leading Louisville’s Black Team. The sophomore is tied for 23rd after matching a career low, with a 1-over-par 73 in the second round. Through 36 holes, she is at 4-over-par 148.

Louisville completes the Cardinal Cup on Sunday, teeing off with Kent State and Illinois. All teams will begin the third round with a 9:15 a.m. ET shotgun start.
