Murray State men’s golf freshman Connor Coombs posted a team-best 13th place finish at the Samford Intercollegiate played at Greystone Golf & Country Club in Birmingham, Alabama.

Coombs out of Muhlenberg County High School was playing in his second event in the Racer lineup and posted scores of 74-73-767=223 to get a spot in 13th place in the field of 58 players in what was the final event of the fall portion of the 2017-18 season for MSU.

MSU’s Gabe Wheeler placed 18th on rounds of 79-73-73=223, while Lance Davis was a 25th place finisher on scores of 79-73-79=231. Austin Knight was 33rd after rounds of 80-78-78=236. MSU’s Avery Edwards had scores of 75-75 in Monday’s 36-hole first day, but had to withdraw because of injury.

The Racers placed sixth on rounds of 307-294-306=907 and were two shots off fifth place Delta State (905) and fourth place Samford (902). UT Martin came from behind to claim the title at 884, ahead of second place Tennessee Tech (886) and Auburn (889).

Greystone played to a par-72 and 7,206 yards.

The Racers finish their fall season with one win and pair of second place finishes in six events. They’ll start the spring season (Feb. 25-26) in Goodyear, Arizona at the Snowman Getaway hosted by Loyola at Palm Valley Golf Club.
