The Murray State men’s golf squad starts Tuesday’s final round two shots off the lead at the Skyhawk Classic at Paris Landing State Park Golf Course in Buchanan, Tennessee.
The Racers carded a 36-hole total 579 and were a pair of strokes off the lead of host UT Martin at 577. The two Ohio Valley Conference rivals meet often on the tournament trail and each shot a 290 in the morning round. UTM had a 287 in the afternoon, while the Racers managed 289.
Avery Edwards was the Racers’ low man after scores of 69-71 which was good for a 3-under par 140. Edwards is in second place, behind leader Brian Whitson of Logan who had scores of 70-68=138.
Other Murray State scores and places include Gabe Wheeler with a spot in eighth place on scores of 72-73=145 and Connor Coombs in 11th place after scores of 74-72=146. Austin Knight was in 18th position on rounds of 75-73=148, while Lance Davis had scores of 78-74=152 for a spot in 31st place.
MSU also has four in the field of 75 players competing as individuals. Justin Wendling had scores of 74-79=153 for a spot in 35th place, while Quinn Eaton was in 55th place on rounds of 76-82=158 as was Cole Manion on scores of 78-81=158. Rhett Cardwell had scores of 87-80=167 and was in 72nd place.
John A. Logan (584), Incarnate Word (593), Lindsey Wilson (594) and Tennessee State (597) make up the top-5 of the event as the field of 12 teams plays Tuesday’s final round in an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
Paris Landing, one of the signature courses in the Tennessee State Park system, is playing to a par-72 and 6,685 yards.
