The Thomas More College women’s tennis team defeated Saint Vincent College, 8-1, today (Friday, October 6, 2017) in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) match played indoors at the Greensburg Racquet Club in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. The win was the Saints’ first over the Bearcats since a 6-3 win on September 27, 2009.

With the win, the Saints improve to 8-3 overall and 4-2 in the PAC. With the loss, the Bearcats fall to 6-5 overall and 4-2 in the PAC.

Thomas More clinched the win during the opening session of singles play as it had a 5-1 advantage after singles. Sophomore Brooke Warden (Edgewood, Ky./Dixie Heights) won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1, first-year Hannah Lowman (Vine Grove, Ky./North Hardin) won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2, sophomore Lacey Pohlman (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands) won 6-1, 7-5 at No. 4, first-year Matison Perry (Union, Ky./Ryle) won 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 10-8 at No. 5 and junior Sarah Fellinger (North Bend, Ohio/Taylor) won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6. The Saints are 8-1 in tiebreakers/super tiebreakers this season.

The Saints swept the three doubles matches to cruise to the 8-1 victory. The No. 1 tandem of Warden and Lowman won 8-1, junior Nicole Capodagli (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) and Fellinger won 8-1 at No. 2 and the No. 3 pair of Perry and Pohlman won 8-5.

Thomas More returns to action tomorrow when it travels to Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania to play Geneva College at 12 p.m.
