The University of Louisville doubles team of junior Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff and sophomore Parker Wynn has advanced to the semifinals of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Ohio Valley Regional Championship after picking up a pair of wins Saturday at the University of Tennessee’s Goodfriend Tennis Center.

“I am happy about Chris and Parker advancing to the final four of this doubles tournament that started with the 64 best doubles teams in the Ohio Valley Region,” said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. “They are looking to be the second regional doubles winner since Austen Childs and Viktor Maksimcuk in 2011.”

The day started with the doubles round of 16 where the Cardinals had two teams competing. Morin-Kougoucheff and Wynn, No. 29 in the ITA doubles rankings, defeated Dayton’s Zach Berry and Carsten Fisher 8-3 to advance to the quarterfinals. They went on to beat Tennessee’s Timo Stodder and Scott Jones 8-5.

In Louisville’s other Saturday doubles match, juniors George Hedley and Federico Gomez fell 8-4 to East Tennessee’s Fraier Rengifo and Juan Lugo.

Morin-Kougoucheff and Wynn will face seventh-seeded Jan Pallares and Felis Rauch from Memphis in Sunday’s semifinal match at 9 a.m. with the winner moving to the title match.

The Cardinals also had four players competing in the singles round of 16. Senior Nicolas Rouanet was edged by the tournament’s top seed and Kentucky’s ninth-ranked William BUshamuka 6-4, 7-6. No. 74 Morin-Kougoucheff fell 6-4, 6-3 to Tennessee’s Preston Touliatos. Junior Brandon Lancaster lost to the No. 11 seed Scott Jones from Tennessee and Wynn took his first set in a tiebreaker but ultimately fell to fourth-seeded Edu Mena from Tennessee Tech 7-6, 6-0, 6-4.

“We had more players in the round of 16 than any other team, but unfortunately none advanced,” said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. “Three of the four were pretty close especially Parker’s. Brandon and Nicolas were both up 6-5 in the second set and Parker went ball for ball with a player who was a quarterfinalist in the prestigious All-American Championships. Overall the team performed well and we hope he achieve a championship tomorrow.”
