The Kentucky men’s tennis team (5-2) swept both Chattanooga (2-4) and IUPUI (2-3) on Friday afternoon inside at the Boone Tennis Center.
In the opening match of the doubleheader Kentucky earned a 4-0 win against the Mocs. In the second match the Wildcats clinched 5-0 against the Jaguars.
Kentucky won two of the three matches in doubles to secure the opening point against the Mocs. Gus Benson and Will Bushamuka quickly won 6-1 on court two. UTC answered with a 6-4 win over Cesar Bourgois and Enzo Wallart, but UK clinched the doubles point when Kento Yamada and Jake Stefanik beat Jacob Marshall and Cooper Long, 6-4.
In singles play, Bourgois was the first Wildcat to score after breezing by Marshall, 6-1, 6-2. Kentucky clinched the match after both Trey Yates and Alex Dominguez won on courts two and three, both winning the first set in a tiebreaker.
In the win against the Jaguars, UK controlled the doubles court again with Yamada and Dominguez winning 6-1 on court three.
During singles play, Austin Hussey was the first to finish and beat Bradley Luetschwager, 6-2, 6-2. Enzo Wallart controlled his match on court one, 6-2, 6-0, to put UK up 3-0. Kento Yamada beat Ethan Mardanus-Budio, 6-2, 6-2 to give the Wildcats their second victory of the day. No. 77 Yates finished just as Yamada took the win, and he beat Jac Newis, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3.
The Wildcats did not drop a set in either match, and lost on just one doubles court.
Kentucky will be back in action on Sunday when UK travels to Virginia. First serve against the Cavaliers is set for noon.
