The Racers were back in action at the Gorilla Classic at Pittsburg State a week after clinching second place in the Don DeNoon Invite at Southern Indiana.
“Today we continued focusing on competing and effort. We came away with season-bests, PR’s and school records. We look forward to tomorrow and fine tune our meet preparations with the OVC Championship two weeks away,” said head coach Adam Kiesler after the first day of events.
60-Meter Hurdles Qualifiers
Jabreuna Brimlett posted the fasted time in the 60-meter hurdles qualifiers with a time of 8.36. Not only was that the fastest time in the qualifiers, but it breaks the Murray State record of 8.41 set by Brimlett at the Music City Challenge. Taylor McCammon posted a time of 8.80 for a third-place finish and Antoinetta Avant placed tenth with a time of 9.11.
60-Meter Dash Qualifiers
Tamdra Lawrence posted the fastest time of 7.56, setting a new season best along with it being the third fastest recorded time in Murray State history. Brimlett came in ninth with a time of 7.80 and Daijah White finished 13 with a time of 7.85 to round out the top-15.
In the long jump, Brimlett posted a seventh-place finish with a jump of 5.70m with Alison Woerner and McCammon finishing in the top-20 with jumps of 5.35m and 5.32m respectively.
Distance Medley Relay
The Squad of Amanda Parker, Katelyn Gilbert, Mallory Unverfehrt and Ida Mutai finished with a time of 13:20.73
Emily Heil set a season-best in the pole vault with a mark of 3.28m
Jewel Wagner led the Racers in the weight throw with a season-best of 15.15m while Destiny Carey threw for 12.42m.
600 Yard Run
Hilary McAdam was yet another Racer to stamp her name in the record book, as she was the first Racer in program history to compete in the 600-yard run. She finished with a time of 1:23.50, and currently sits with the ninth fastest time in Division I.
Lawrence placed in the top-three with her time of 24.20 for second place. Her time of 24.20 is a season-best, beating her time from the Music City Classic at Vanderbilt. Coming in the top-15 was Norma Abdur Rafia, who finished 14th with a time of 25.01.
Meagan Smith posted the fastest time for the Racers in the 5000-Meter race with a time of 18:02.72 and placed 15th. Caroline Grogan finished 20th with a time of 18:33.93.
