No. 6 Kentucky Gymnastics Travels to No. 2 LSU for SEC Network Showdown

The No. 6 Kentucky (5-1, 2-1 SEC) gymnastics team continues SEC play on Friday when UK travels to No. 2 LSU (5-1, 3-0 SEC). The meet will begin at 8:30 p.m. ET and will be shown live on the SEC Network with John Roethlisberger and Alicia Sacramone Quinn on the call.

Kentucky earned its second road win of the season last weekend after taking down Auburn, 196.700 – 196.250. The Wildcats are 2-1 in conference play, with its only loss coming against Florida in week three. UK also beat Arkansas, 196.950 -196.525.

Scouting the Tigers

LSU heads into the meet with UK as the No. 2 team in the nation. The Tigers are ranked in the top five in every event, including No. 2 on bars and the floor. On bars, Kennedi Edney and Sarah Finnegan are both No. 7 in the nation individually at 9.906. Myia Hambrick has the highest floor average in the nation at 9.956.

Kentucky in the Team Rankings

For the second week in a row, Kentucky stayed at No. 6 in the nation. UK’s average score went up to 196.419. UK is the third ranked SEC team, behind LSU and Florida.

Kentucky in the Event Rankings

The Wildcats is in the top 10 in the floor, beam and vault and in the top 20 on the bars. UK’s best event is on the floor at No. 5 with an average score of 49.250 and a high of 49.350. The Wildcats are No. 7 on the vault and beam with average scores of 49.131 and 49.138, respectively. Kentucky’s high on the vault and beam is both 49.350. On the bars, UK is ranked No. 17 with an average score of 48.900.

Rewriting the Record Books

The 196.700 that Kentucky posted tied the sixth-best score in program history and has only posted a score of 196.700 or better eight times in program history and only five times on the road. The Wildcats scored a 49.300 on the bars, tying the best score in program history.

Another All-Around Title and More Event Titles

Mollie Korth won her third-straight all-around title after posting a 39.3 against Auburn. Korth shared the bars title with a Katrina Coca, who both posted 9.9s. On the vault, Korth scored a 9.9 and won the outright title.
