The Murray State women’s golf team quest to win back-to-back titles at the John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate got off to a promising start with a spot in second place, just three shots off the lead at the three-day event hosted by Georgia State at Eagles’ Landing Country Club in Stockbridge, Ga.

The Racers carded a 302 team score in Sunday’s first round which leaves them three shots off the lead of Jacksonville at 302. South Alabama (304), Georgia State (309) and Elon (309) rounded out the top-5 in the field of 17 squads.

Anna Moore led the Racers in round one with a 74 and a spot in fourth place, just three shots off the lead. Other MSU scores included Moa Folke in ninth place after a 75 and Linette Holmslykke in 14th place with a 77. Lucila Puente Rodriguex de Austria had a spot in 19th place on a score of 77. Raeysha Surendran was in 60th place after an 83.

Nadine Innes is in the event for the Racers as a solo player. Her 79 was tops among the five individuals in the event and 30th overall.

Ashley Sloup of Winthrop was the medalist leader as the only player under par with a 1-under-par 71.

A year ago, the Racers won the event on the Eagles’ Landing course that is playing 6,043 yards and to a par of 72.
