The Thomas More College softball team dropped both games of a non-conference doubleheader with Muskingum University today (Sunday, March 25, 2018) at Donna J. Newberry Field in New Concord, Ohio. The Fighting Muskies won game one, 6-5, and the nightcap, 7-2.

Thomas More falls to 7-9 on the season and Muskingum improve to 15-1.

In the first game, Muskingum scored one in the first, three in the second, one in the fifth and one in the seventh and held the Saints to two runs in the third, one in the fifth and two in the seventh for the 6-5 victory.

At the plate, Thomas More had 10 hits and three Saints had multiple hits in the game. Sophomore first baseman Andrea Gahan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) was two-for-four with a double and two runs scored, junior pitcher Alix DeDreu (Rising Sun, Ind./Rising Sun) was two-for-four with a run scored and sophomore catcher Kenzi Dickerson (Union, Ky./Ryle) was two-for-four with a two runs batted-in.

DeDreu suffered the loss in the circle as she pitched six and two-third innings and gave up six runs (five earned) on 13 hits and struck out five.

Muskingum scored three runs in the first, one in the second and three in the sixth, while holding Thomas More to one run in the second and one in the fifth for the 7-2 win the nightcap.

Junior pitcher Hannah Sparague (Bright, Ind./East Central) took the loss as she pitched five and a third innings and gave up seven runs (six earned) on 10 hits and struck out five. First-year pitcher Lauren Willett (Owensboro, Ky./Owensboro Catholic) pitched two-thirds of an inning of relief and struck out one.

Two Saints had multiple hits as senior center fielder Laura Finke (Fort Wright, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) was two-for-four with a run scored and DeDreu was two-for-four with a RBI.

Thomas More returns to action on Tuesday (March 27) when it travels to Lexington, Kentucky to play in-state rival Transylvania University. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
