The softball edition of the Battle of the Bluegrass will take place this afternoon as the Eastern Kentucky University softball team will travel to Western Kentucky for a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m. ET.
EKU has squared off with WKU 22 times on the diamond, with the series split 11 each.
LAST TIME OUT
-EKU (22-13, 5-1 OVC) was edged by the No. 20 University of Kentucky Tuesday night at Gertrude Hood Field.
-Mollie Paulick and Zoe Mihalicz notched hits for the Colonels.
-Paige Murphy continues to lead EKU in the batter’s box with a .433 batting average through 35 games. The senior has a slugging percentage of .826.
-Destinee Lizzmore (7), Hannah Clark (8) and Murphy (10) lead the Colonels in round-trippers. As a team the squad has notched 44 on the season.
-Paulick (8-4) is leading the pitching staff with a 2.50 earned run average.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
-Western (23-14, 7-5 C-USA) won a three-game series over UTEP last weekend, dropping just one game.
-Jordan Thomas leads the Hilltoppers offensively with a .353 mark.
-Kelsey Aikey has been the ace for WKU, leading with a 3.01 ERA.
