Playing under cold and windy conditions, the Eastern Kentucky University’s women’s golf team sits in third, just five shots off the lead, after the first day of the 2018 Ohio Valley Conference Championship on Monday at The Shoals on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
Five teams are within six shots of first place after the opening round of the three-round event. Murray State (307) leads Jacksonville State (308) by one shot. EKU totaled an opening round 312 and is 24-shots over par.
Austin Peay (312) is also five shots back. Tennessee Tech (313) is six strokes off the pace.
The three-day, 54-hole event is being contested on the par 72, 6,043-yard Schoolmaster Course.
Elsa Moberly led EKU on day one with a 1-over round of 73. Her card included three birdies on the back nine. The junior is tied for second, one shot behind individual leader Lucila Puente Rodriguez (72) of Murray State.
Freshman Ragnhildur Kristinsdottir shot a first round 6-over 78 and is tied for 13th. She carded par on all but one hole on the back nine.
Junior Amanda Lindahl (80) is tied for 21st overall. Sophomore Mikayla Hauck (81) had two birdies during the first round and is tied for 24th. Sophomore Hannabeth Owens (83) is tied for 28th.
Morehead State (316) is sixth and Belmont (319) is seventh. Eastern Illinois (351) and Tennessee State (362) round out the field of nine teams.
The Colonels will begin teeing off for round two on Tuesday at 10:40 a.m. ET.
