The Northern Kentucky University baseball team fell to No. 21 Louisville on Tuesday evening by a final score of 7-2. The Cardinals were ranked in the latest Collegiate Baseball poll. Louisville moves to 21-11 overall, while NKU is 7-21 on the season.

AT THE PLATE

Will Haueter went 1-for-3 at the plate with a run scored.
Griffin Doersching was 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a double.
Nolan Rattai also went 1-for-4 at the plate.

ON THE MOUND

Pat Kelley got the start on the mound for the Norse.
Joe Martin pitched 2.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen, allowing just one hit.
Travis Rowland allowed just one run in two innings of work.

KEY MOMENTS

Doersching hit a double down the left field line to score Haueter and Chad Roberts to give the Norse a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
Louisville tied the game in the bottom of the second. Danny Oriente’s single allowed Josh Stowers to cross the plate and make the score 2-1. Oriente later scored in the inning on a throwing error to tie the game at 2-2.
The Cardinals scored three times in the bottom of the third to go ahead 5-2.
Louisville’s Lucas Dunn hit a sacrifice fly to give the team a 6-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth.
Oriente hit a RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to extend the Cardinals’ lead to 7-2.

NORSE NOTES

This is the second time the Norse have played a ranked opponent this season. NKU previously defeated No. 6 Kentucky on March 7.
The Cardinals had 13 hits in the contest, and NKU had three.
Louisville stranded nine runners, and the Norse left six on base.

UP NEXT

NKU will travel to Eastern Kentucky on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
