Northern Kentucky men’s tennis and women’s track and field were named NKU’s recipients of the Horizon League’s Raise Your Sights award on Tuesday afternoon. The honor is given annually to the best sports teams academically and is based on the combined grade point average from the current academic year.

Men’s tennis programs received the most representation across the Horizon League, as four of the League’s 10 institutions had men’s tennis as its highest academic male sport. The Norse posted a 3.53 GPA for the 2017-18 academic year, including the highest spring team GPA in the athletic department at 3.71.

Women’s track and field was the only such program among the League’s institutions. The Norse had consistent success in both semesters with a 3.60 GPA in the fall and spring, which marked the highest team GPA in the athletic department in the fall.

Not only have men’s tennis and women’s track and field seen tremendous academic success, but the entire NKU athletic department crushed the previous GPA record of 3.28 with a 3.46 grade point average in the 2018 spring semester. It marked the eighth-straight semester that the Norse had a department-wide, cumulative GPA at or above a 3.2, and the 14th-consecutive with at least a 3.0 GPA.
