Several current and former Murray State men’s golfers competed over the weekend at the Eli Barron Tournament held at the Madisonville Country Club in Madisonville, Kentucky.

Rising Racer junior Austin Knight posted a strong score of 8-under-par 63 in the opening round and held off several players on Sunday afternoon to claim the title. A native of Hopkinsville, Knight posted scores of 63-69=132 to win by six shots over Austin Peay’s Chase Korte who carded scores of 69-68=138. Knight’s total of 132 (10-under-par) set the event scoring record by one shot. Former Racers, Duncan McCormick and Will Cox placed fourth at 143.

Knight claimed a rare double win at the Barron Tournament when he won the Gold Tee Shootout on Friday night. This fun competition has play beginning on the first hole and as the battle goes along, the highest score after each hole is eliminated. Knight outlasted the field and won after 11 holes of play and he’s believe to be the first in the history of the Madisonville event to win the Gold Tee Shootout and the main event in the same year.

Current MSU players in the field included Connor Coombs who had scores of 72-75=147 and Rhett Cardwell who posted rounds of 75-73=148.

The event had a field of 212 golfers from seven states.
