Junior Hanna Carr claimed the USA Shooting Women’s and Junior National Titles in women’s three-position rifle on Saturday. UK’s All-American fired 1183 in the open division and 1180 in the junior division.
“I had a great time this week,” Carr said. “It was a great opportunity to get back to the basics and remind myself of the shooter that I am. I just enjoyed myself, tried to keep things simple, and stayed in the mindset I used to shoot with. There was some great competition, and it was a great atmosphere.”
Carr also placed first in the 50m prone earlier in the week when she fired 621.5 and 618.6 to finish almost three full points ahead of second place. The Versailles, Kentucky, native also finished in the top 10 in women’s 10m air rifle after an 828.7.
“I’m very proud of her performance all week,” head coach Harry Mullins said. “The way she performed is a great testament to her drive. After being sick during the Junior Olympic Championships and not having the chance to compete, it was exciting to see her execute in this match.”
“This is a great end to her sophomore year and an even better start to her junior year,” Mullins added. “She competes at a high level, and seeing her reach her goals is very exciting.
Carr also won the USA Shooting Junior Olympic Championship in women’s three-position last April and competed on the American team that won the women’s Gold Medal in 10m air rifle and 50m three-position at the Meeting of the Shooting Hopes match in Pilsen, Czech Republic.
