Senior Marian Wolski scored the equalizer with just over a minute to play, sending the Eastern Kentucky University soccer team to a thrilling 3-3 draw with visiting Dayton in an exhibition match on Thursday.
After Dayton rallied to take a 3-2 lead late in the game, the Colonels did not quit. Wolski intercepted the ball in the 89th minute, dribbled into range and fired a beauty from just outside the box that found the upper left corner of the net.
EKU jumped out to an early lead when redshirt sophomore Sarah Owusu took a pass from Wolski and beat the Dayton goalkeeper one-v-one for a goal in the 35th minute.
The Flyers tied it with a score in the 48th minute, but freshman Maddy Lemery put the Colonels back on top in the 60th minute, taking a pass from a fellow freshman Audrey Anderson and flicking it past the keeper to make it 2-1.
Dayton scored two goals in the final 30-minute period to take its first lead of the day, but Wolski’s heroics knotted it up in the final minute.
Eastern will now host Miami (Ohio) in another exhibition on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
The Colonels open the regular season next Thursday, August 22, on the road at Ohio University. First touch from Athens is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
