Four Eastern Kentucky University soccer players – Erin Torrence, Monica Rios, Zoe Aguirre and Sarah Owusu – were voted to All-OVC teams, the conference announced at its annual postseason banquet on Thursday night.

Torrence was named first team All-OVC, while Rios picked up second team All-OVC honors. Aguirre and Owusu were voted to the OVC All-Newcomer Team.

Torrence has had, arguably, the best offensive season by any EKU player ever. She leads the Colonels and ranks third in the OVC in goals (nine) and points (22). Both are EKU single-season records. Torrence also leads Eastern in assists (four), shots (43), shots on goal (19) and game-winning goals (three).

The junior forward from Hudson, Ohio got the season off to a great start when she headed in a goal less than 10 minutes into the season opener at Cincinnati.  Four days later, she scored the game-winner to lift EKU to its first victory of the season, a 3-1 result at East Tennessee State.

On October 2, Torrence broke the EKU single-game points record with five against in-state rival Morehead State. She scored two goals and added an assist in the Colonels’ thrilling 4-3 win over the Eagles in overtime. Torrence scored the game-winner off a free kick in double-overtime to lift the Colonels past conference foe Jacksonville State, 1-0, on October 12. She closed out the regular season by notching the game-winner at Murray State to help EKU secure the No. 4 seed and a first-round bye in the OVC Tournament.

Torrence is the 11th Colonel all-time to earn first team All-OVC honors.

Rios has controlled the midfield for the Colonels all season. The senior from Lexington, Kentucky played in all 19 games during the regular season, starting 17 of them. She has been on the field for nearly 1,500 minutes of action.

Rios notched an assist to Kacy Eckley off a corner kick in the Colonels’ road win at ETSU on August 21. She recorded another assist to Torrence in the win over in-state and conference rival Morehead State on October 2.

On October 7, Rios buried a free kick for her first goal of the season at Belmont. It proved to be the game-winning goal in a big, bounce-back win for the Colonels.

Rios ranks third on the team in shots on goal with 13.

She is the 14th Colonel all-time to be named second team All-OVC.

Aguirre earned her first shutout in her first career start, a 1-0 win over Ball State at home. She made six saves and earned her second clean sheet of the season in EKU’s first-ever win over Kentucky, a thrilling 1-0 victory in Lexington.

She was named OVC Goalkeeper of the Week on August 28 and September 4.

Since conference season has started, she has blanked Eastern Illinois (September 16), Jacksonville State (October 12), Murray State (October 21) and SIUE in the OVC quarterfinals (October 28). She also notably made a career-high 13 saves in the loss at UT Martin on October 19.

On October 2, Owusu scored the golden goal in double-overtime that lifted EKU past in-state rival Morehead State, 4-3. She added another goal in the Colonels’ 3-1 win at Belmont in Nashville on October 7.

Owusu ranks second on the team in shots (32), shots on goal (17) and game-winning goals (three).

Aguirre and Owusu are the 14th and 15th Colonels all-time to be named to the OVC All-Newcomer Team.

The Colonels will face No. 1 UT Martin in the OVC semifinals on Friday night, November 2, at 8 p.m. ET.
