LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky’s women’s tennis team will travel to the Golden State for the weekend as they match up with San Diego State on Friday at 5 p.m. ET and San Diego on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET.
The Wildcats look to capitalize off making the championship match during the ITA Kickoff Weekend as they already have the nationally top-ranked doubles pairing, a win over a ranked opponent, and two nationally-ranked individuals.
San Diego State enters Friday’s contest coming off a double header, in which the Aztecs defeated UC Riverside, 6-1, but also fell to Cal State Fullerton by a score of 5-2. The Aztecs match Kentucky’s overall record of 1-1 and have one individual, Tamitha Nguyen, ranked in the ITA Top-125. Nguyen did not compete in the season-opening doubleheader, but picked up wins against individuals from four ranked teams in the fall, including No. 4 Southern California.
From there, No. 22 Kentucky will make a short trip and visit the University of San Diego. The Toreros are 2-0 on the season with wins over UC San Diego and Cal State Fullerton. This is only the third time that the schools have met with the last meeting coming in 1993. San Diego is coached by Sherri Stevens, who is in her 32nd year with the team.
