Kentucky State University softball dropped the final game of a three-game series at Spring Hill College, 3-2 on Sunday afternoon at Murray Field.
The Thorobrettes (0-5,0-3) are in the midst of an 11-game, 10-day road trip, and are in search of their first win of the 2017 season. The Badgers (11-4, 3-0) have started the season on a roll, including a stretch of nine wins over 10 games since Feb. 8.
Freshman pitcher Chante Thome (0-2) threw a complete game for KSU, only allowing one earned run and no one walks over her seven innings of work.
SHC pushed two runs across in the bottom of the first inning after two KSU fielding errors, for an early lead. The Thorobrettes mounted a comeback in the top of the sixth with a RBI double by senior first baseman Kaitlin Oshiro, followed by a RBI single by senior center fielder Tyniesha Wilson driving in freshman utility player Kaija Aikman to tie the game up at 2-2.
Thome pitched a scoreless sixth inning with the help of Wilson throwing out a runner from center field to third base after a runner tried to advance from second on a bloop single.
The Badgers prevailed past the visiting Thorobrettes in the bottom half of the seventh as catcher Kali Clement connected on a walk-off home run to left field.
KSU will travel east to Florida for a doubleheader on Tuesday night at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 ET.
