Meredith Daunhauer of the Kentucky Wesleyan College softball team earned All-American honors from the Division II Collegiate Commissioners Association, being named to the Third-Team. After bringing home a pair of All-Region selections this season, this marks the first career All-America selection for Daunhauer and the first in program history for Kentucky Wesleyan softball.
The sophomore held a .457 batting average this season, helping the Panthers claim their first ever Great Midwest Athletic Conference title and punching a ticket to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history. Daunhauer led the conference with 102 hits, a mark good for second in the nation.
Daunhauer finished in the top 20 nationally in two other statistical categories. The .457 batting average was good for 17 th , while a 0.75 stolen bases per game was good for 16 th . The Evansville, Ind. native stole 49 bases on the season, setting a single season record at Kentucky Wesleyan, and is also the career stolen bases leader at 77.
“This is a great honor for Meredith and the program,” remarked Head Coach Miles Mallette. “I’m so happy for her as all of the hard work she has put in physically and mentally has paid off.”
Under Mallette the Panthers had a historical 2017 season, reaching 30 wins for the first time since the 1996 season. Kentucky Wesleyan finished the season 38-22, tying the single season records for wins in a season set in 1986. The Panthers brought home their first conference title since winning the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship in 1994.
