UK Swimming & Diving Complete Outing at OSU Winter Invite

Kentucky’s representatives at the Ohio State Winter Invitational wrapped up competition on Sunday in the team’s close to the 2015-16 regular season. The Wildcats had two winning times in addition to swimming a variety of time trials throughout the day.

For the men, Mike Summe recorded a win in the 200 IM with a personal-best mark of 1:50.35, followed by JD Schurer in 1:52.28 for fourth. Schurer also competed in the 100 back time trials, clocking in at 51.41 seconds for a career best. Jacob Smith, who notched an NCAA B cut in the 200 fly yesterday, tried to double up with a consideration mark in the 100 fly but fell short by less than a quarter of a second in 48.53 seconds, a new career best for the sophomore. Tanner Anderson turned in a season best in the 200 breast, touching in sixth in 2:04.35. Rounding out competition for the men were Shane Anderson and Matheus Gerotto. Both competed in the prelims of the 200 free, with Anderson finishing second in 1:38.88 while Gerotto clocked a 1:42.01. Anderson went on to finish fourth in the 50 free in 20.98 seconds after setting a career mark of 20.82 in the prelims, while Gerotto swam a 21.50 in the 50 free time trials.
Meghan Taylor was the other Wildcat to secure a win, finishing the 50 free in 23.61 seconds for the second-fastest swim of her career. Rachel Freeman posted a pair of career bests in the 500 free and 400 IM time trials, with a 4:55.10 in the 500 free and a 4:24.04 in the 400 IM. Two other swimmers competed for the women, as Kate Kelly placed second in the 200 fly in 2:04.52 and had a 50 free time trial mark of 24.57 seconds, while Allie Peterson took runner-up in the 200 breast in a personal record of 2:21.65 and swam a 25.25 in the 50 free time trial.
Kentucky is now two days out from the start of the 2016 Southeastern Conference Swimming and Diving Championships. The meet will run Tuesday through Saturday, Feb. 16-20, hosted by the University of Missouri.
