UK Women’s Tennis Blank San Diego State 7-0

SAN DIEGO, Calif. –Kentucky women’s tennis advanced to 2-1 on the season with a 7-0 shutout of San Diego State, with the Wildcats conceding just two sets throughout the nine singles and doubles matches.
The No. 1-ranked doubles pairing of Mami Adachi and Aldila Sutjiadi found their footing after dropping their sets last weekend, handily defeating Tami Nguyen and Jana Buth, 6-1. Justina Mikulskytė and Nadia Ravita secured the doubles point for the Wildcats with a 6-0 blanking of Dora Somoracz and Olivia Larsson, while Akvilė Paražinskaitė and Morgan Chumney played out their set and earned a 6-1 victory over Isabelle Hoorn and Taylor Lederman.
Moving into singles action, Kirsten Lewis was the first to pick up a win for the Wildcats with a takedown of Hoorn in matching 6-1 sets in No. 6 singles. Mikulskytė, moving into the No. 3 singles spot for the first time this season, was the next to get a victory for the Cats in matching 6-3 sets. From there, Paražinskaitė clinched the team win with her 6-1, 7-6(7) decision over Lederman in No. 5 singles.
The Wildcats went to sweep the rest of singles, with Chumney defeating Paola Diazde Regules in No. 4 singles, 6-4, 6-3, while Sutjiadi and Adachi also notched wins in No. 1 and 2 singles. No. 97 Sutjiadi upset No. 50 Nguyen, taking the first set, 6-4, before dropping the second, 2-6. She went on to overtake Nguyen in the deciding set, 6-1. No. 100 Adachi also had a three-set victory against Kennedy Davis, winning the first set, 6-4. She then dropped a 6-7(4) decision in the second set and won 10-8 in the third.
“We are very excited for our players today,” remarked head coach Carlos Dradá. “We did a great job competing. They came out and played a lot of things that we had been working on, and we’re hoping to do the same things tomorrow at a better level.”
Kentucky will remain in San Diego, making the short trip to the University of San Diego to take on the Toreros tomorrow at 2 p.m. ET.
