The Bellarmine University women’s tennis team was edged 4-5 by Lewis in its Great Lakes Valley Conference opener on Saturday at the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex.

Bellarmine (6-7, 0-1 GLVC) won two of the three doubles matches, but Lewis (8-4, 1-0) was able to counter by claiming victories in the Nos. 1-4 singles matches.

All six of the singles contests were won in convincing fashion. Lewis won Nos. 1-4 in straight sets, and Bellarmine sophomores Marissa Kovach and Mairin Cotter dominated at Nos. 5 and 6, respectively, dropping a single game between them. Kovach and Cotter both have 13 singles victories this season, tied with freshman Maggie Walroth for the team lead.

Walroth and senior Caitlin Hanley secured a big 8-6 win over Dora Andrejszki and Megan Nguyen at No. 2 doubles. The Knights’ duo improved to 15-5 together this season.

Junior Sydney Thompson and sophomore Bess Fley picked up a commanding 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles to improve to 4-1 together.

Bellarmine will host Lincoln Memorial at 1 p.m. (ET) Sunday.
