Five Event Winners and Three Top-10 Program Performances Set the Stage for an Exciting Day Two

The Murray State track and field team showcased their skills during day one of their meet at Kentucky, securing five event wins and three top-10 program performances on Friday. The Racers’ impressive showing demonstrates their readiness for the upcoming conference championships on May 12.

Alexis Meloche kicked off the day with a victory in the javelin event, achieving a mark of 40.11 meters, just 2 meters shy of her personal record. Meghan Fletcher continued the winning streak by claiming victory in the high jump with a 1.71-meter mark. Rachel Hagans made it three in a row with a 6.45-meter high jump performance, followed by Jenna Pauly, who finished as the runner-up in the high jump with a new personal record of 6.00 meters. This achievement moved Pauly up to seventh place in the all-time program top-10 list.

Amyah Davis secured third place in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.40, earning her the third spot on the program’s all-time top-10 list. Teliyah James clocked the fourth-fastest 200-meter dash time by a Racer, with a time of 23.62, finishing third in the event.

Kayla Bell added another win for the Racers in the 800-meter race, posting a time of 2:06.37. Allison Wood topped off the day with a victory in the 3000-meter steeplechase, completing the race in 11:59.02.

Head coach Adam Kiesler was pleased with the team’s performance, stating, “Today’s results are what we are looking for from a competition perspective.” He emphasized the importance of the team’s energy and the role it plays in building momentum for upcoming events.

The Racers will continue their final tune-up before the conference championships, with day two of the meet commencing with the pole vault event at 11:30 a.m. Eastern Time on Saturday. With the team’s strong showing on day one, they look to carry that momentum and energy into the second day of competition.
