Kentucky track and field juniors Ellen Ekholm and Daniel Roberts were named as part of the Southeastern Conference’s Community Service Team for the sports of men’s and women’s track and field and cross country.

The conference names a Community Service Team for each of its 21 league-sponsored sports, looking to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to his or her community through superior service efforts.

SOK is the UK Student-Athlete Advisory Committee’s charity of choice, and Roberts has taken part in multiple outreach efforts to make maximum impact with an organization that creates year-round sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Roberts hosted a Special Olympics athlete at the CATSPY Awards in April and went to practices for Special Olympics teams in the state.

Roberts earned Men’s Runner of the Year honors on Tuesday. He won the 110-meter hurdles at the SEC Championships, running 13.07 in the final. The time ranks No. 2 all-time in the NCAA. He scored 11.25 points in the three-day competition.

Multiple Wildcats also earned spots on All-SEC Teams. Event winners at the 2019 SEC Outdoor Championships were named First Team All-SEC. Conference silver and bronze medalists were named to the second team and the top freshman scorer in each event was named to the all-freshman team.
