Eastern Kentucky University distance standouts Luisa Boschan and Amos Kosgey have been named to the prestigious 2016 U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Cross Country Team.
Boschan is one of 168 runners from across the country named to the Women’s All-Academic Team, while Kosgey is one of only 97 runners nationally named to the Men’s All-Academic Team.
SIUE’s Keith Meyer was the only other Ohio Valley Conference student-athlete – male or female – named to an All-Academic Team.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Teams, student-athletes must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have either earned USTFCCCA All-America status or finished in their respective region’s top 25 (or top 10 percent) in 2016.
Both Boschan and Kosgey are graduate students at EKU. Boschan – a junior from Berlin, Germany – has maintained a 4.0 GPA while pursuing a master’s degree in physical education with a concentration in exercise and sport science. Kosgey – a senior from Eldoret, Kenya – has maintained a 3.70 GPA while pursing a master’s degree in public health with a concentration in environmental health science.
Boschan earned All-Region honors after finishing 25th at the NCAA Southeast Region Cross Country Championships in November. She covered the 6K course in a time of 21:07.5. Boschan was also named first team All-OVC after finishing fifth at the conference championships in October with a 5K time of 17:28.8.
Kosgey earned All-Region honors for the third time in his career after finishing 16th at the Southeast Region Championships with a 10K time of 29:46.7. He was also first team All-OVC after placing third at the conference championships with a 5K time of 24:41.0.
The EKU men’s and women’s cross country teams were also named Division I All-Academic Teams by the USTFCCCA.
To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the team must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better and have started at least five runners at their respective NCAA region championship.
The EKU men posted a team GPA of 3.20, while the women posted a team GPA of 3.69.
