Three EKU Athletes Earn Weekly OVC Track & Field Honors

Three Eastern Kentucky University student-athletes have earned weekly Ohio Valley Conference track and field honors, the league office announced on Wednesday.

Eastern Kentucky UniversityJunior Jamaine Coleman was named the OVC Co-Male Track Athlete of the Week, junior Charlotte Imer was named the OVC Female Track Athlete of the Week and sophomore Tequan Claitt was named the OVC Co-Male Field Athlete of the Week.

Coleman won the men’s 3,000 meters at Marshall’s Thundering Herd Invitational on Saturday in Huntington, West Virginia. The native of Preston, England clocked a personal-best and track-record time of 8:16.7 to secure the win. That time currently ranks No. 2 in the OVC. It is the first-ever Track Athlete of the Week award for Coleman, who was an NCAA East Regional qualifier in the 3,000-meter steeplechase last spring (8:53.7).

He shares this week’s honor with SIUE’s Keith Meyer.

Eastern Kentucky UniversityImer won the women’s mile at Marshall with a personal-best, OVC-best and track-record time of 4:52.4. The native of Melbourne, Australia now owns the top times in the OVC in the mile, 3,000 meters (9:37.3) and 5,000 meters (16:16.05). Imer – an All-American during the cross country season – has now been named OVC Track Athlete of the Week three times this season.Eastern Kentucky University

Claitt won the high jump on Saturday with an OVC-best mark of 6-11.75. That matches his indoor best from last season and is the third-best indoor high jump in EKU history. It is also the 36th best jump in the country, currently. The Lexington native is the defending OVC champion in the indoor and outdoor high jump.

He shares this week’s honor with Belmont’s Ryan Lipe.

The EKU track and field team returns to action this weekend at the Middle Tennessee State Invitational in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
