Kentucky State University volleyball lost 3-1 to Campbellsville University (25-22, 27-25, 25-18, 25-17) in the Dig Pink match on Monday night at the Exum Center.

The Thorobrettes (12-11) were led by senior setter Anjelique Kyle who recorded a team-high 37 assists while sophomore middle blocker Payton Richardson led the team with 11 kills.

KSU dropped a tightly contested first set 25-22 to the visiting Tigers, which saw eight lead changes. The Thorobrettes trailed early in the match before taking the 8-7 lead. KSU led by as much as three, leading the Tigers 12-9 before ultimately dropping the first set 25-22.

The Thorobrettes bounced back for the second set, winning 27-25 following another tightly contested set. CU jumped out to an early 7-4 lead before the home squad went on a 10-7 run to tie the set up at 14. The Tigers scored four uncontested points to take an 18-14 advantage before KSU went on another run, outscoring the Tigers 7-3 to tie the set at 21. The end of the set continued to be back and forth as the lead changed five more times before a kill from senior outside hitter Sherry’ce Butler tied the match up at 1.

The momentum was short-lived by KSU dropping its next two sets 25-18 and 25-17 to lose the match.

The Thorobrettes will be on the road for a non-conference matchup as they travel to Centre College on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
