Kentucky State University volleyball unveiled its 2017 schedule, and it will feature five home matches for the first season under the direction of new head coach Katrina English.
“The schedule was developed to test us both mentally and physically,” said English. “I believe we are equipped to be successful and excel. The goal is to do more than just win, but to achieve competitive greatness.”
The 30-match schedule will begin with the first five matches on the road with the opening match of the season at Midway College on Sept. 5. The Kentucky Wesleyan Tournament in Owensboro, Kentucky will follow and span the weekend of Sept. 8 and 9, putting the Thorobrettes against Bluefield State University, Kentucky Wesleyan University, Brescia University, and Oakland City University.
KSU will return to the Capitol City and host the first match of the season on Sept. 15 against Georgetown College at 6 pm ET. After a tri-match at Lewis University on Sept. 16, the Thorobrettes will welcome the University of Indianapolis on Sept. 19, with a start time of 6 pm ET.
SIAC play will begin on Sept. 21 with the East/West Crossover at the Birmingham Crossplex. In 2016, the Thorobrettes controlled conference play, going 13-4 overall.
The SIAC Cluster at Central State University will take place at the end of the month on Sept. 29, with a non-conference home match against West Virginia State University sandwiched between the Crossover and the Cluster on Sept. 26 at 6 pm ET.
Through the first two weeks of October, KSU will play nine straight matches on the road, ranging from Oct 4. at Centre College, and ending on Oct 14. with the SIAC Cluster at Spring Hill College.
On Oct. 17, Central State University pays a visit to the Capitol City for a 6 pm ET start time, and KSU will return to Wilberforce, Ohio, on Nov. 2 for the third and final scheduled game against the Lady Marauders.
The regular season schedule will wrap up at home with senior day on Nov. 7 against Asbury College. The matchup with the Eagles will be the lone match slated to start at 7 pm ET during the home schedule.
