For the seventh-consecutive week, a WKU Volleyball student-athlete has been named a Player of the Week by the Conference USA office as Sydney Engle has been named the Defensive Player of the Week by the league. Engle has now claimed the award four of the past five weeks for the first accolades of her career on The Hill.

Over the past week, Engle continued her role as a crucial piece of the WKU squad. Across the Lady Toppers’ three sweeps during the week, the Floyds Knobs, Ind., native filled the statsheet averaging 2.83 points per set, 2.44 digs per set, 2.11 kills per set, 1.33 assists per set, 0.67 blocks per set and 0.33 service aces per set. The all-arounder hit a collective .349 on the week with 19 kills on 43 swings.

As WKU’s secondary setter on the court, Engle saw 12 of her 20 week eight sets find the floor for kills by her teammates for a .600 assist percentage. Offensively, Engle notched 19 kills across the week. Sunday’s sweep at FIU saw Engle come just one kill and one dig shy of another double double on her senior season.

Following eight weeks of play in the 2017 season, WKU sits at 21-2 overall and atop the Conference USA standings with a 7-0 mark. The Lady Toppers have now won 22-consecutive sets of action dating back to Sept. 22 against Florida Atlantic. Additionally, WKU Volleyball – along with VCU – was the first squad across Division I to hit the 20-win plateau on the 2017 campaign and own the second-longest win streak in the nation at 17. The Red and White have now won 32-straight sets over C-USA opposition dating back to the 2015 season.

Engle’s fourth accolade of the season, and her career, brings WKU’s 2017 laurel total to 12 as four different Lady Toppers have been honored.
