Eastern Kentucky University volleyball has added height for the 2018 season in 6-0 plus transfers Lindsey Wilkins and Natalie Burchesky, head coach Lori Duncan announced recently.
“What we are the most pleased about in the addition with these two is that they have experience,” Duncan stated. “You can underestimate how important having transition to a Division I program and how much of an advantage that gives them. They are already way ahead of the curve in terms of the expectations, their maturity and being in great condition. That is going to bode very well for us.”
Wilkins spent her freshman campaign at Indiana State University. The 6-0 outside hitter racked up 29 kills in 22 sets for the Sycamores. A native of Lexington, Kentucky, Wilkins played four years for Tates Creek High School and aided the Commodores to three-consecutive district championships and regional runner-up titles.
“Lindsey is going to help us fill a really important need over the off-season which is bringing in an outside that has experience at the DI level,” Duncan explained. “She will also help us with some depth in that position. She will be asked right off the bat to step in and play a significant role.”
Burchesky spent three seasons with Ohio University. In 2015 the 6-4 middle blocker was named to the Mid-American Conference Tournament Championship team after taking a redshirt season. The Canonsburg, Pennsylvania native set five single-match career-highs last season with the Bobcats: kills (3), attacks (6), solo blocks (3), total blocks (5) and points (4.0).
“Natalie is coming from a very well-respected program in Ohio University,” said Duncan. “She will come in and be a viable force when it comes to our ability to defend the court. She’s a great blocker and that will help us defensively tenfold. Like Lindsey, she will come in and play a significant role right off the bat. I am very excited about the addition of these two, they make us better immediately.”
The 2018 EKU volleyball schedule will be released later this summer.
