Brooks had been a two sport (baseball and basketball) athlete until fall 2012. He left baseball to focus on basketball in the spring of 2013 which is when Brooks joined Charlotte Court AAU/travel club. He transferred from Lexington Christian Academy to West Jessamine in the fall of 2013. Brooks started all 30 games for West Jessamine in the 2013-2014 season.
