The Eastern Kentucky Colonels football program wraps up an outstanding 2014 season on Saturday on the road at Florida. The Colonels currently sit at 9-2 on the season and 6-2 in the Ohio Valley Conference just one game behind Jacksonville State in the win column.
The Colonels opened the season on a six game winning streak including wins against division opponents Tennessee Martin, Austin Peay and Tennessee Tech. The other wins came against Robert Morris, Morehead State and division 1 Miami (Ohio). Since the six game streak Colonels have gone 3-2 with oen of the losses coming against number four ranked Jacksonville State.
Much of the Colonels success has come with the team’s running game led by Dy-Shawn Mobley and Jared McClain. The two of combined to rush for over 1,900 yards along with 27 rushing touchdowns. Mobley has done most of the damage rushing for the eight most yards in division 1-AA with 1,372 and fourth in rushing touchdowns with 19.
Next up for the Colonels is a match up with the Gators in Gainsville, Florida this Saturday to wrap up their season and prepare them for the FCS Championship. The Gators enter this matchup at 5-4 on the season with only one game out of conference coming against Eastern Michigan to open the season.
Win or lose on Saturday, The Colonels should have the resume needed entering ranked 16th on the FCS Coaches poll and 14th on the The Sports Network poll to land one of the 13 remaining at large spots to fill the field of 24. The selection show will take place on November 23rd at 11 am.
