Lexington, KY- Day 2 of the Kentucky’s boy’s sweet 16 kicked off with a battle. Ballard and Johnson Central exchanged buckets for 3 quarters until Ballard’s Jalen Perry took over at clutch time. Ballard defeated Johnson Central to move on to the quarterfinals of the sweet 16.
MR. basketball finalists Jalen Perry and Kyle Gullet took over from the tip. At halftime Kyle had 14, Perry with 13.
Ballard went into the locker room with a 40-34 lead.
Both struggled from the charity stripe shooting a dismal (Ballard) 15-31, 9-19 Johnson Central. It has been a struggle for the 10 teams who have taken the court in the tourney.
Ballard shot 40% from the field for the game, Johnson Central 49%.
Perry cooled down in the 3rd Quarter scoring 1 but #22 Jamil Wilson picked up the load to give Ballard a 3 point lead at The 3rd buzzer 55-52.
Gullet kept up the pace with 7 in the 3rd giving him 21 in 24 minutes of play.
The battle continued in the fourth period. Jalen Perry then took over scoring 10 of his 25 with a sensational put back slam and pull up jumper at the 5:07 mark. Ballard extended the lead to 73-62 with 3:00 remaining.
When clutch time came the Bruins scored 9 compared to Johnson Central’s 7. Perry made the difference
