BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Junior transfer Jalen O’Bannon was named adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week, the league announced today.
O’Bannon turned in another stellar performance in Eastern Kentucky’s home opening 91-62 win over Western Carolina University Saturday at McBrayer Arena. The Memphis, Tennessee native finished just short of her first career double-double, netting a game-high 21 points, along with nine rebounds, four assists, two blocks and a steal.
She shot 64 percent (9-of-14) from the floor and 3-for-4 from the free throw line in the win. O’Bannon has scored in double-digits in her first two games at Eastern, after finishing with 11 points and eight rebounds in the season opener at the University of Richmond.
O’Bannon is participating in her first season at Eastern, after sitting out last season due to transfer rules. She played two seasons at Arkansas State and was named fourth-team All-Sun Belt Conference following her sophomore season before transferring to Eastern Kentucky.
The Colonels (1-1, 0-0 OVC) travel to take on Miami (Ohio) University Tuesday. Tuesday’s game is scheduled for a noon ET tip-off.
