UK Volleyball Earns AVCA Team Academic Award for 2nd Straight Season

For the second consecutive season, the Kentucky Wildcats volleyball team earned the AVCA Team Academic Award, honoring the team’s 3.383 cumulative grade point average for the 2015-16 school year.
The Wildcats had an accomplished season in the classroom, surpassing the required 3.3 grade point average during both the fall and spring semesters. Additionally, eight members of the team held a 3.5 GPA or higher in both semesters, while three Wildcats posted individual GPA’s of 3.9 or higher for the academic year.
“I’m proud of our team’s consistent effort in the classroom,” head coach Craig Skinner said on the team’s accomplishment. “They realize that school is an important avenue to success and they have continued to make education a priority while simultaneously competing as elite level athletes.”
Kentucky was one of just four Southeastern Conference programs to be named award winners, with Alabama, Missouri and South Carolina also making the mark.
The AVCA acknowledged a record 762 volleyball programs this year, spanning both men’s and women’s clubs ranging from Division I to the high school level. 131 Division I women’s teams were honored for the 2015-16 academic year.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
