UK Volleyball’s Dailey Named Player of the Week, Brown is SEC’s Offensive Honoree

Behind a pair of impressive Southeastern Conference victories, two Kentucky volleyball players hauled in SEC weekly honors on Monday. Sophomore Olivia Dailey was tabbed as the league’s Player and Setter of the Week, while junior Kaz Brown earned co-Offensive Player of the Week honors.
The honors are the first of Dailey’s career. It is Brown’s first such honor of the season, and the fourth time in her career she has been named a performer of the week by the conference.
Dailey had the best week of her young career in two wins over league foes. The Trussville, Alabama, native posted two kills and 40 assists, while chipping in six digs in a win over Georgia. It marked the most assists in a three-set match this season for Dailey as she also led the team to a .268 attacking clip.
Dailey then posted 47 helpers in the win over Mississippi State – the most for UK’s floor general in a four-set match this season. She also posted a career-high four aces in the win over the Bulldogs. Her four blocks against Georgia was just one off of a career best.
Dailey’s distribution was impeccable as six Wildcats logged 1.20 kills per set or better for the week on a .252 average. She averaged 12.43 assists per set which is nearly two more than her season average.
Brown busted out in a big way offensively for the Cats in wins over Georgia and Mississippi State this week. The Waterloo, Iowa, native notched her first two double-digit kill efforts of the season in back-to-back efforts.
She posted a season-best 13 kills on a blistering .579 attacking clip in a sweep of Georgia to begin the week. She also added a team-best five blocks in the win. It was more of the same for Brown against Mississippi State, as she posted 12 kills on a .391 clip and added four more rejections. For the week, she led the squad with a .476 attacking clip and was second with 3.57 kills per frame. Her 4.21 points per set was second only to Leah Edmond who plays a full six rotations.
With Dailey and Brown earned SEC accolades, UK has now had at least one player honored in four of five weeks this season. Ashley Dusek was the SEC Defensive Player of the Week following the opening weekend of play, while Edmond has been named Freshman of the Week twice.
Kentucky will hit the road for the first time in SEC action on Wednesday as UK travels to Florida for an 8 p.m. tilt. The match will air live on the SEC Network with Sam Gore and Missy Whitmore on the call.
