Former Kentucky men’s golfer Chase Parker achieved a monumental goal in his quest to becoming a PGA Tour golfer. Parker placed 14th overall in the final event of the Web.com Qualifying School to earn exemption for eight starts on the upcoming 2017 Web.com Tour season.
Parker ascended seven slots on the leaderboard behind a 4-under, 68, on the final day of play to claim guaranteed entry into the first eight events of the 2017 Web.com Tour Regular Season.
“Chase Parker is enjoying the fruits of his labor and I could not be more proud of him,” UK head coach Brian Craig said. “With the opportunity to play a full season on the Web.com Tour, I look for him to continue to grow and get better. It is great to see a fine young man like Chase have success in pursing his dream and making the Big Blue Nation proud.”
The top 25 players on the Web.com Tour’s regular-season money list will earn 2018 PGA Tour cards.
He carded rounds of 67-72-68 to finish this year’s Qualifying School final tournament at 8-under par and a coveted top-15 finish.
Parker made his PGA Tour debut in June when he qualified for the U.S. Open. He qualified for the championship beginning with a local qualifier at Secession Golf Club in Beaufort, South Carolina, with a 66. He then fired a 6-under, 138 at Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, Maryland, before surviving a 3-for-2 for the last qualifying spot on June 6. He shot 6-under par over his final 13 holes to make it to the playoff.
Parker has been playing professionally in mini-tours since his four-year career concluded with the Wildcats in 2013. A former team MVP, Parker was also a member of the 2010 All-Southeastern Conference Freshman Team.
