Murray State was held to a season-low 29.4 percent (20-of-68) shooting from the floor and 5-of-25 shooting from 3-point range as the Racers lost at Morehead State Wednesday night at the Johnson Center, 73-59.
The Eagles (17-6, 7-3 OVC) led from wire-to-wire in the contest and shot nearly 46 percent from the floor. MSU (12-10, 4-5 OVC) was outscored 38-20 in points in the paint and 10-4 on fast break points in the contest. The Racers did have a 13-5 edge in second-chance points as they outrebounded the Eagles 44-40 on the night. MSU’s best offense all night came at the free-throw line as it went 14-of-17 (82.4 percent) at the line.
After a tight first quarter, Morehead State pulled away in the second period as the Eagles ended the frame on a 17-3 run and led 43-24 at halftime. The Racers trailed by as many as 28 late in the third quarter before chipping into the deficit in the fourth quarter.
Ke’Shunan James led the Racers with 19 points. James also grabbed seven rebounds and had three assists and two steals. Bria Bethea was the only other Racer to score in double figures as she added 13. Abria Gulledge chipped in with nine while Kyra Gulledge grabbed a game-high nine boards.
MSU returns to action Saturday as Belmont comes to town for a 6 p.m., contest. It will be the first of three straight games at home for the Racers
