The University of Louisville softball team was picked to finish second in the 2017 Atlantic Coast Conference regular season as voted by the league’s 11 head coaches.
Louisville, which finished second in the league and reached the semifinals of the tournament in 2016, received 86 points and one first-place vote. Florida State is the preseason favorite to win the league after capturing both the tournament and regular season crowns in 2016.
Notre Dame received 84 points and was picked to finish third after posting a runner-up finish in the 2016 ACC Championship. Rounding out the top five were North Carolina (67 points) and Virginia Tech (58 points).
In 2016, Florida State, Louisville, North Carolina and Notre Dame earned postseason berths, with the Seminoles finishing as the Women’s College World Series semifinalist.
The Cardinals will open the 2017 season this weekend when they travel to Las Vegas for the UNLV Sportco Kick Off Classic. UofL will face Southern Utah and CSU Bakersfield on Feb. 10.
