Murray State head football coach Mitch Stewart announced Thursday the addition of Cody Woodiel to his staff as the offensive line coach and the promotion of Carson Hunter to quarterbacks coach.
Woodiel comes to Murray after spending the past three seasons at the same position at Itawamba Community College. Previous to ICC, he spent two years as the offensive line and tight ends graduate assistant at Troy.
As a player, the Hernando, Mississippi native split time between tackle, guard and tight end for two seasons, from 2011-2012, at Troy. In his final season at Troy, the Trojan offensive line finished 25th in the FBS, allowing just 1.25 sacks per game despite attempting 42.4 passes per game. Before transferring to Troy, Woodiel played two seasons as a tight end at Northeast Mississippi CC.
Hunter becomes the quarterbacks coach after spending last season as the defensive quality control coach for the Racers. The Collierville, Tennessee native was a four-year lettewinner at Memphis before graduating from its law school and practicing in the Nashville area.
Since then, Hunter has served as the head coach at Rossville Academy in Tennessee and as an assistant at other West Tennessee area high schools including Dyer County and Trinity Christian.
In addition, Sean Dawkins has been elevated from Co-Run Game Coordinator to Run Game Coordinator, while Casey Bockman has added Passing Game Coordinator to his duties.
