Murray State’s Jonathan Stark was named Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week for a third time this season after a vote by the league’s sports information directors.
Stark scored 26 points last week in the Racers’ home game with Belmont. He hit 11-of-23 from the field and added four assists. The performance marked his 15th game this season of 20-plus scoring. Stark starts the week as one of only three players in NCAA D-I that are scoring 20 points per game and dishing out 5.5 assists. He is third in OVC scoring (21.0ppg) and second in assists (5.5apg).
Stark and Terrell Miller have combined for nine OVC Newcomer of the Week awards this season for the Racers.
The OVC honor for Stark, a junior from Munford, Tennessee, is his sixth. He’s one from tying the OVC’s all-time single-season mark of seven set by Murray State’s Jarvis Williams and Jarekious Bradley of Jacksonville State, each in the 2013-14 season. Trenton Marshall of JSU also had seven awards in 2009-10.
The Racers hit the road this week for a Wednesday game at Morehead State. The tip happens at 6 p.m. Central Time. MSU is back home Saturday at the CFSB Center to clash with the Austin Peay Governors. The women’s/men’s doubleheader has tip times of 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. The game marks another segment of the Heritage Bank Battle of the Border.
