WKU Tennis will make a short road trip down to Nashville to clash against Belmont on Saturday at 6 p.m. CT at the Wildwood Bubble followed by Lipscomb on Sunday at 6 p.m. CT inside the Whitworth Indoor Center.
Schedule of Play (all times CT)
Saturday, Feb. 11, 6 pm – WKU vs. Belmont
Sunday, Feb. 12, 6 pm – WKU vs. Lipscomb
Entering the weekend, the Lady Toppers hold a 2-2 record with their two losses coming to ACC and Big 10 opponents. WKU’s two wins came when it earned its first victory over Middle Tennessee since 1989, while its other win was the first match of the season when the Lady Toppers took down Detroit Mercy 7-0.
Under head coach Jonatan Berhane, WKU has not lost to either program in BU and LU going 4-0. Belmont leads the all-time series 15-9, but WKU has won the last three matches – all on the road in Nashville. The all-time series record between Lipscomb and WKU is 11-10 with the Lady Bisons claiming the edge.
Belmont (0-5) is led by junior Suzanna Stapler who boasts a 3-2 record on the year. Lipscomb (1-4), which took down the Bruins 4-3 on Jan. 27, went 0-1 this past weekend losing to Chattanooga 4-2.
WKU senior Elpida Malamou is off to a hot start in 2017 tallying a 4-0 singles record, including two wins over a couple of Power Five No. 1 singles players. The Greece native, counting back from last season, has now won 17-straight singles matches.
Freshman Monica Malinen is second on the team in wins posting a 3-1 record at the No. 5 spot. The other three freshmen (Natalia De Ugarte, Lisa Friess and Cindy Oest) have racked up four wins combined, respectively.
Admission is free for both matches at the Wildwood Bubble and Whitworth Indoor Center.
