The Thomas More College softball team won a pair of games today (Monday, March 6, 2017) on the second day of the Rebel Spring Games at the Osceola County Softball Complex in Kissimmee, Florida. The Saints defeated Simpson College, 6-4, in the first game and Penn State University–Berks, 3-1, in the nightcap.
With the sweep, Thomas More improves to 2-2 on the season.
Against Simpson, junior Laura Finke (Fort Wright, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) was two-for-two with a double and two runs scored. Sophomore Alix DeDreu (Rising Sun, Ind./Rising Sun) was two-for-three with a double and a run scored and junior Sammy Sagers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) hit a two-run home run.
Finke also led the Saints in their win over Penn St.-Berks as she was three-for-three with a run batted-in and a run scored. First-year Kenzie Dickerson (Union, Ky./Ryle) was one-for-three with a RBI and sophomore Morgan Wells (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) was one-for-three with a RBI.
In the pitching circle, sophomore Hannah Sprague (Bright, Ind./East Central) pitched five and a third innings and had a no decision as she gave up one run (earned) on three hits and struck out two. Junior Danielle Piening (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) earned the win as she pitched one and two-third innings of shutout relief and gave up one hit, while striking out one.
The Saints will play Bluffton University tomorrow at 9 a.m. and Lakeland College at 1:30 p.m. at the Osceola Softball Complex.
