Kentucky senior Aldila Sutjiadi once again earned Southeastern Conference distinction as the league office released its yearly awards on Thursday morning. As voted on by coaches, Sutjiadi was named to the All-SEC Second Team and was selected SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
A native of Jakarta, Indonesia, Sutjiadi has earned all-conference honors in each of her four seasons as a Wildcat, but this year marks the first in which she’s earned the Scholar-Athlete of the Year title. The 2015 and 2016 winner of the NCAA Elite 90 Award, she holds an impressive 3.943 GPA in mathematical economics. Sutjiadi was the third runner-up for the 2017 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar of the Year Award.
On the court, the senior played an integral role in leading Kentucky to its first seven-win SEC season since 2006. Playing at both No. 1 singles and doubles, Sutjiadi teamed up with junior Mami Adachi to form one of the nation’s top-ranked pairs. After winning the ITA/USTA National Indoors doubles title in November, the duo went 19-9 this season including a 7-4 mark in SEC play. Individually, the senior is ranked 22nd in the nation in singles and climbed as high as No. 11 in the ITA rankings. Sporting an 18-14 record, Sutjiadi led the team in ranked singles wins, including victories over then-No. 34 Alizee Michaud of Auburn and then-No. 48 Shannon Hudson of Arkansas.
Sutjiadi was named to the second team in 2014 and 2015, and was selected First Team All-SEC in her junior campaign.
