EKU Women’s Golf Team Earns Prestigious NCAA APR Award

For the second straight year, the Eastern Kentucky University’s women’s golf team received a prestigious NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate (APR) Public Recognition Award on Wednesday.

The women’s golf team was one of 24 sports teams from across the Ohio Valley Conference to be recognized.

This specific award is given each year to teams that posted multiyear APRs in the top-10 percent of all squads in each sport. The APR provides a real-time look at a team’s academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team’s academic performance. The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from the 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2015-16 academic years.

“I am very proud of our women’s golf student-athletes,” Director of Athletics Stephen Lochmueller said. “These young women continue to be committed to do their very best for EKU in the classroom and on course.”

Eastern Kentucky was one of 121 women’s golf teams in the country to be honored. The Colonels have won three of the last five OVC Championships and have finished among the top-2 in the league each of the past five years.

“I am so proud that EKU women’s golf has received this award for two years in a row,” Head Coach Mike Whitson said. “Our players have career goals beyond college that will require graduate school and professional school. Because of that, they know the importance of their undergraduate work and it shows in their dedication and results.”

APR scores for all Division I teams will be released May 10.
